After clearing King George V Playing Fields recently, it was the turn of Leamore Park today, and our team of 15 great volunteers ignored the showery weather to complete a good clearance of the whole park, with a further 19 bags of rubbish collected. Our total for the year is now well over 100 bags!

We’d planned to cover Leamore Park with a group of Blakenall Scouts, but unfortunately they had to cancel. We carried on regardless, and despite the wet and showery weather we had a great turnout of 15 volunteers taking part. Arriving on the park, it looked pretty tidy, but as we walked around we found lots of litter caught up in the hedges and borders, including the usual mix of litter we’ve become used to during our campaign to clear up the town.

Along the way, we met and chatted with quite a few park users, and a shout out must go to the two gents who were so impressed they went a brought back some soft drinks for those taking part. It’s always good to chat to people we meet, and it certainly helps to get good feedback. In an ideal world we’d not need to do this, but we do think it’s making a difference. It was another disappointing day weather wise, but at least the rain we’d had all day previously and for much of the morning had abated for our efforts here today.

The tally for today was another 19 full bags, which means our annual total is now well into three figures. It’s a shocking total really, but hopefully each time we revisit an area in the future we’ll find a bit less than the time before. Right now we’ve got quite a long list of places to tackle, but if you know of somewhere do please contact us and we’ll see what we can do. We’re hoping to increase the amount of equipment we have and therefore how many people we can kit up too, and we’re always happy to help others join the increasing local efforts to tidy our communities.

If you’d like to offer up some time and come along and help us, new volunteers are always welcome, please contact us. Whilst coming along and picking up litter is one obvious way to help, there are other things you can do.

  • Share our social media posts (the more people who see what we’re doing, hopefully the more helpers we’ll get).
  • Let us know of areas you think need to be cleared. We can’t promise, but if we know somewhere is in need of tidying we’ll do our best to schedule a visit.
  • If you’re a local business, and would like to support us, we could always use some more equipment. We’ve a small number of litter pickers and bag holders, but we could use more, and they do wear out.

We’re currently looking at obtaining some funding for further equipment and will hopefully be able to get anyone interested kitted up and ready to go at a time to suit. Just get in touch and we can discuss how we can help you join in or get started on your own.
