Bloxwich Gets A New Christmas Tree

Anyone at the Sparkle into Christmas event yesterday, or passing through Bloxwich, might have noticed the Christmas tree which sits proudly near the fountain at the north end of the High Street.
Well, earlier today another tree was planted in the grounds of All Saints Parish Church at the other end of the High Street as part of the Bloxwich in Bloom initiative. Andy and Stuart from our club went along to help (though by all accounts the help was mostly from Stuart!).
Bloxwich in Bloom was supported by many different people and community groups during 2011, the first time the town had entered the Heart of England competition, and we were all pleased to hear we’d received a bronze award for our efforts, only narrowly missing out on silver. Hopefully we can do even better in 2012.
Crocus bulbs have been planted around the tree which should provide a blast of colour in late February and early March next year, helping to provide some early spring cheer to the town. This follows on from our joint efforts with Bloxwich in Bloom last year to plant purple crocus bulbs as part of Rotary’s ‘Focus on the Crocus‘ campaign. We’re hoping to get a few more flowers this Spring!
Our thanks go to All Saints Parish Church for allowing the tree to be planted; we’re planning to use this new addition for a tree of light initiative next year, so watch this space!
Cheque Presentation to Walsall Rotary
Andy and Dawn attended our mother club Walsall Rotary’s meeting to hand over a cheque for monies raised from their fun run in September where we ran a tea and coffee stall. The funds raised will be distributed to a number of local charities, including St. Giles Hospice.
They had an excellent evening and were given a very warm welcome. Walsall Rotary had recently celebrated their 90th birthday and interestingly their mother club, Birmingham were also present, even older!
There was fascinating talk about one of their founding members, John Ashworth Crabtree who founded the Crabtree company in 1919, and amongst many other things, was a prominent member of Rotary.

Planting Crocuses Around The Rotary Oak
Tracey and Andy attended the Bloxwich in Bloom Community Planting day where they planted (with the help of several others) crocuses around the Rotary oak tree which was planted for the Rotary centenary in 2002.

The crocuses were planted for Rotary Focus on the Crocus and the End Polio Now campaign and they should bloom around February/March (fingers crossed)! When they do they will flower in the shape of a Rotary logo to highlight the campaign, and to bring colour to the town as part of Bloxwich in Bloom.
Earlier this year the town was awarded a bronze medal in the competition, and we’re all hoping that everyone in the community can help to make it even better in 2012. Why not learn about future events by following the Bloxwich Business Partnership on Facebook?
