Euro 2012 Competition
It hardly seems like four years ago, but in a packed summer of sport, the first major event is of course the European Football Championships.
We are once again holding one of our competitions for the event.
Entries cost just £1 with 50% of the proceeds going to the winner and the other 50% going to the Rotary Foundation charity.
Entering is very simple. Simply download an entry form and select your choice of two teams from each of the seeded groups. Or, if you don’t know much about football (for example, if like me, you regularly watch Walsall), you could select a computer generated entry.
Send your entry (fax, post, or e-mail) and pay us your £1, and you’re in. We will feature updates on this website after each day of games, and you could win a nice little summer prize! Go on, you know you want to!
2012 F1: After Race 5 (Spain)
The Spanish GP has something of a reputation as one of the less exciting races in the F1 Calendar, but this year’s race was certainly not typical of races here in earlier seasons. It was a race of statistics, with Williams getting their first win since 2004 when Pastor Maldonado crossed the line first, after a strong challenge from Alonso in the Ferrari. He’s the first Venezuelan driver to win in F1.
Anyone betting on him prior to the race weekend stood to make a healthy profit with odds of around 300-1 available prior to the weekend. He now believes Williams can challenge for more this year.
This result made it five different winners (drivers and teams) in five races this year – the first time that’s happened since 1983. If you’re old enough, can you remember who?
- Brazil: Nelson Piquet (Brabham-BMW)
- USA: John Watson (McLaren-Ford)
- France: Alain Prost (Renault)
- San Marino: Patrick Tambe (Ferrari)
- Monaco: Keke Rosberg (Williams-Ford)
The sixth race in 1983 (Belgium) was won by Prost, who despite winning most Grand Prix races that year (4) would finish second to Piquet.
Will 2012 give us a sixth team/winner?
With Renault showing strongly again here, it’s far from impossible.
All this uncertainly makes our competition a little more difficult, as you can see from some of the changes this week! Previous leaders CCTV drop to fourth, with new joint leaders taking over.
You can see the league positions after this race here.
This year the 34 entries we have received mean a prize of £42.50 for the winner with an equal amount going to our Rotary Foundation charity. Thanks to everyone for their support.
2012 F1: After Race 4 (Bahrain)
After failing to make the top ten on the grid last week in China Vettel took pole in Bahrain. And like Rosberg last week he managed to convert that advantage into a win. It was a good day for Lotus with Raikkonen and Grosjean taking the other two podium places.
McLaren were less happy, after problems with both drivers during pit stops damaged their chances, a position made worse when Button had to come in for a fourth stop following a puncture, before being forced to retire a lap or two later.

Our leader remains unchanged, but further down there are a lot of movements. You can see the league positions after this race here.

2012 F1: After Race 3 (China)
The third race of the 2012 season got more interesting as time progressed. but ended with a maiden victory for Nico Rosberg in the Mercedes. He drove well to secure a victory after starting on pole. Behind him things were close, but after tyre wear hit the Red Bull, the two McLarens were able to overtake Webber to take the final two places on the podium, giving Hamilton the honour of being the leader in the Drivers’ Championship and the only man to have taken a podium finish in each race so far.

The third league table of the year can be seen here.
Our apologies to Gary and Spin-Off GP whose entry was missed from our first two races. You’re back in play here!

2012 F1: After Race 2 (Malaysia)
It was another McLaren 1-2 for the start of this race in Malaysia, but rain took its toll on the day and caused a number of incidents which led to an unexpected result, with Ferrari taking their first win of the year for Alonso.
Jenson Button and Sebatien Vettel had separate incidents with the same car to both end up out of the points, leaving Hamilton as the only representative of last week’s podium to make it onto this week’s.

The second league table of the year can be seen here.
This year the 33 entries we have received mean a prize of £41.25 for the winner with an equal amount going to our Rotary Foundation charity. Thanks to everyone for their support.
2012 F1: After Race 1 (Australia)
Jenson Button had the perfect start to the 2012 season with a victory in Australia. He drove a pretty flawless race after taking the lead from the start after getting a slightly better drive from the grid than his teammate Lewis Hamilton. Hamilton lost out during a late safety car incident and ended the race third, allowing the Red Bull team to take second and fourth place for Vettel and Webber respectively.

2012 Formula 1 Competition
It’s that time of the year again, when the Formula 1 season begins. As usual we are running one of our competitions for the season, and as usual 50% of the proceeds will go to the winner with the other half going to Rotary Foundation.
The entry form is available here. Entries, which cost just £2.50, can be made by post or e-mail and the full rules are shown on the entry form.
You can amend your entries before each race, so you have every chance of being able to win if you want to spend time ‘studying form’.
Entries must be received by 17 March, and good luck!
2011 F1: Final Positions
Mark Webber managed to take his first victory of the season at the last race in Brazil, but it made no change to our leader, who makes it back-to-back wins in our annual competition. Congratulation to Paul Farndon!
The final league table can be seen here.
The 2012 competition will hopefully be available during February next year, and your continued support would be very much appreciated. This year’s competition raised £40 for Rotary Foundation.
2011 F1: After Race 17 (India)
Sebastien Vettel took the maiden victory in the inaugural Indian Grand Prix earlier today, with Jenson Button coming home in second place. The first race here went well, as was generally well received, so it looks like it may remain a popular choice in future years.

The league table after this race can be seen here.
