For 2018 we’re hoping to hold regular litter collections around the local area. Our first one took place around the High Street, Market Square and around All Saints Church. Our ten volunteers braved the showers and collected a total of 18 bags of rubbish, which was quickly removed by Walsall Council’s Clean & Green service.

Although we’ve taken part in litter collections in the past, we’ve never held a regular event, so we’re quite excited to be doing so for 2018. Several of our members have been volunteering in a similar scheme in nearby Willenhall which has been running for around a year now, and it seemed time that we here in Bloxwich stepped up to the mark and started clearing some of the rubbish which some people seem to think it’s OK to leave.

For this first collection there was no trouble finding places to collect litter – indeed, it could have gone on for much longer. We targeted the town centre, with the bushes along Samul Street, and the gardens around All Saints Church and the Bloxwich Tardis. The banks that surround the church certainly looked a lot better with all of the empty cans and general litter removed!

If you’d like to offer up some time and come along and help us, new volunteers are always welcome, please contact us. Whilst coming along and picking up litter is one obvious way to help, there are other things you can do.

  • Share our social media posts (the more people who see what we’re doing, hopefully the more helpers we’ll get).
  • Let us know of areas you think need to be cleared. We can’t promise, but if we know somewhere is in need of tidying we’ll do our best to schedule a visit.
  • If you’re a local business, and would like to support us, we could always use some more equipment. We’ve a small number of litter pickers and bag holders, but we could use more, and they do wear out.
