Despite the wet ground and persistent light rain we had a great turnout for our litter collection on Bloxwich’s King George V Playing Fields on March 31. With 20 volunteers in total we managed to collect 32 bags of litter and some other bits and pieces for our friends at Clean & Green to collect.

For the Easter holiday we’d hoped for some nice dry and sunny weather to encourage lots of people to come along and join in on our litter collection from King George V Playing Fields. In the end, we’d had rain for most of the day before, and we had intermittent light rain on the day itself, so the ground was pretty muddy and the litter a little wet and heavy. That didn’t stop 20 of us managing a combined total of 32 bags of rubbish in just over an hour of collecting. A great haul, and a noticeable improvement on the state we found it in.

We covered much of the west and north side of the park, trying our best to get into the trees and pick up some long standing rubbish from the area. A couple of volunteers also did the main avenue into the car park, so it looked tidy and pristine by the time we left. We’re hoping to do the rest of the park on our next collection on April 14, when we’ll once again have a team meeting at 11am on the car-park. We’re a friendly bunch, so why not come along and join us?

If you’d like to offer up some time and come along and help us, new volunteers are always welcome, please contact us. Whilst coming along and picking up litter is one obvious way to help, there are other things you can do.

  • Share our social media posts (the more people who see what we’re doing, hopefully the more helpers we’ll get).
  • Let us know of areas you think need to be cleared. We can’t promise, but if we know somewhere is in need of tidying we’ll do our best to schedule a visit.
  • If you’re a local business, and would like to support us, we could always use some more equipment. We’ve a small number of litter pickers and bag holders, but we could use more, and they do wear out.

We’re currently looking at obtaining some funding for further equipment and will hopefully be able to get anyone interested kitted up and ready to go at a time to suit. Just get in touch and we can discuss how we can help you join in or get started on your own.
