Tonight was the night when one of our members made good on the promise to have her head shaved to raise funds for Rotary’s End Polio Now campaign, whilst providing enough hair for a wig making charity too. Christine from Teddy’s Hair Design kindly volunteered to do the cutting, with District Council attendees all watching.
After several months of publicity and awareness the night when Sonia was due to have her head shaved had arrived. Christine, a hairdresser from Teddy’s Hair Design in Cannock kindly volunteered her time and expertise to do the cutting, and with the event taking place during our District Council meeting there were dozens of Rotarians from clubs around the District in attendance to see (and sponsor) the event too.
With the starting hair being pretty long, Christine was able to cut that in lengths that made it suitable for passing to a charity that provides wigs for those who’ve lost hair as part of cancer treatments. It made for quite a contrast as the hair rapidly disappeared.
Christine continued the cut as the meeting progressed, with Sonia sat at the front of the room. Those present were generous in their sponsorship on the night too, adding to the total amount raised.
Sonia had a purple wig all ready for use at the end of the event, but Christine did such a good job that everyone agreed there was no need, with the end result looking good! It will take a little while to finalise the total, but we’re expecting around £600 has been raised from Sonia’s efforts. A big thank you to her, and to everyone who supported the event.
