There’s a new Foodbank opening shortly to cover Blakenall and the surrounding area, and we were pleased to be able to visit one of their recent committee meetings to present a set of weighing scales. These will be used to weigh the incoming donations and help to portion larger packages into amounts to be distributed.

A group of individuals from various churches across the town have been working hard to get a new foodbank for the town. It will be situated at Blakenall Village Centre, and will open soon.

They’ve worked hard to get to where they are, just a few months from opening, and we’re pleased to report we were able to donate a much needed set of scales to the group in preparation for the opening.

The Foodbank will run under the Trussell Trust’s guidelines. They reported that between 1st April 2017 and 31st March 2018, The Trussell Trust’s foodbank network distributed 1,332,952 three day emergency food supplies to people in crisis, a 13% increase on the previous year. 484,026 of these went to children. This is a higher increase than the previous financial year, where foodbank use was up by 6%.

So you can see there’s a need for this facility here in our town, and we’re pleased to be able to support it. We’ll hopefully be able to feature more ways it can be supported in the near future too.
